“NKF 30 Hour Override Kidney Disease” was the first-of-its-kind overnight stationary cycling event organised by NKF, as part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts in education and prevention of kidney disease. This event aimed to encourage the community to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle through regular exercise to prevent diabetes and hypertension, which are the leading causes of kidney failure.
While cycling on their stationary bicycles, participants were also treated to a variety of fun activities such as band performances, spinning sessions by professional instructors, interactive sessions with One FM DJs, live DJ set and even a midnight movie screening.
The event held at the outdoor court of Velocity@Novena Square was a ground of bustling activity and movement for a solid 30 hours from 10 and 11 December 2016. Close to 800 participants, including members of the public, cycling enthusiasts and volunteers from all walks of life, gathered at the court to cycle for a good cause. Together, they cycled an impressive distance of more than 20,000 kilometres on their stationary bicycles and raised a total of $100,000 for the needy kidney patients of NKF.
All the funds raised during the event will go towards subsidising the transport fares of the needy kidney patients, who have to make more than 300 trips a each year to and from the dialysis centres for their treatment sessions.
