New Yishun Dialysis Centre A Welcome Relief

Mr Randy Wee, 68, had been travelling from his home in Yishun to NKF’s dialysis centre in Ang Mo Kio thrice weekly for treatment because the NKF’s dialysis centre in Yishun was full with a long waiting list. Needing a wheelchair after losing his right leg, the diabetic travelled to Ang Mo Kio by bus or train with the help of the family domestic helper.

It is a great relief to him to be transferred to NKF’s newest and second dialysis centre in Yishun. He now only takes about 15 minutes to travel to the centre, half the time it took him previously.

“NKF has done such a wonderful job serving the needy patients. This has inspired us to do our part to sponsor this dialysis centre, which is our company’s biggest single donation. Personally, I empathise with the needy patients as I grew up in a tough environment. My siblings and I have been very blessed and it is now our turn to bless others.”
Mr Michael Chng
Director of Le Champ
Over 40 patients living in Yishun have already transferred to the new centre. They were previously receiving treatment further away at other NKF centres.

The centre is made possible with a generous donation of $2.1 million from electronics supplier Le Champ (South East Asia) Pte Ltd.

Patients at the new centre will be comforted by artworks created by primary school children who took part in an art competition in conjunction with World Kidney Day, matching the bright and cheery façade of the centre.

“I’ve met (Nee Soon) residents who asked for another dialysis centre because they have to travel a fair bit of distance for treatment.”
Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Health and MP for Nee Soon GRC, who supported the establishment of the new centre
5 New Dialysis Centres in a Year
For the first time ever, five new dialysis centres will become operational in a year. NKF will have 30 dialysis centres by the end of this year. Besides Le Champ-NKF Dialysis Centre in Yishun, the other four centres will be in Jurong West, Kolam Ayer, Bukit Panjang and Bukit Merah. This will ease the crunch of our existing 25 dialysis centres operating at near full capacity.
