On 13 December 2015, more than 350 residents from Tampines West had an informative day of fun and education at the NTUC/Singapore Pools-NKF Dialysis Centre Open House!
The event was jointly organised by NKF, Tampines West Community Club, Palmspring RC and Summerville RC.
The Open House aimed to educate everyone about chronic kidney disease and relayed educational and prevention tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle through guided tours, health / nutrition talks, quizzes and exercise demonstration. To deliver a more holistic programme, complimentary kidney health screenings were provided to over 300 participants. From the health screening, participants were made aware if they were at high risk of getting diabetes or hypertension – the two main causes of kidney failure.
Our Guest of Honour – Minister Masagos Zulkifil, MP for Tampines GRC, also graced the occasion. He was given a tour of our dialysis centre and had an opportunity to have a deeper understanding of the nature of kidney disease and the seriousness of the increasing rate of kidney failure cases in Singapore. In light of the holiday season, Minister Masagos and his residents also pinned their well wishes and words of encouragement for the kidney patients on our special wishing tree – making this DC Open House event a special and memorable one.
